The West Ewell and Ruxley Residents Association, (WERRA) was formed in 1956 to give local people an independent voice about their area. We represent residents in the electoral wards of West Ewell and Ruxley in the borough of Epsom and Ewell. WERRA is one of 11 independent RAs that form the Residents’ Associations of Epsom and Ewell. We operate as a voluntary members association, with fees paid annually.
Because our association covers two wards there are six borough councillor seats. Candidates from the Residents’ Association of Epsom and Ewell contest all six ward councillor seats and one county councillor seat. Since 2015, we have all six elected councillors on Epsom and Ewell Borough Council, three councillors for West Ewell and three councillors for Ruxley. At county level the division is also known as West Ewell. Jan Mason is our county councillor on Surrey County Council.
The WERRA Committee
Our Chair is John Moffatt, our Vice-Chair is Gary Kirchmair, our Secretary is Gill Smitheram. There are also sub-groups for Revenue & Communications, Highways & Safety and Environment. Committee members come from a variety of backgrounds with experience ranging from the armed forces, the police, the NHS and the civil service. Some are also small business owners or work in the corporate world. It is especially relevant that committee members live in the area, many having lived in the wards all their lives. Furthermore, of the six councillors that attend the WERRA committee three are former mayors of Epsom and Ewell.
